Agenda

Global Arms Trade

Freedom of expression has a historical background in ancient civilizations but gained significant importance in recent times. The Magna Carta in 1215 marked a pivotal moment in establishing constitutional liberties, impacting England and the United States. The invention of the printing press in the 15th century played a crucial role, especially in relation to journalism. The English government implemented a licensing system in 1520 to regulate the growing press industry.

The spread of illegal weapons poses serious threats, fueling conflicts and violating human rights. International agreements, arms control treaties, export restrictions, and arms embargoes aim to curb the illicit arms trade. Cooperation, intelligence sharing, and stricter law enforcement are necessary to combat the proliferation of illicit weapons. Achieving global peace and respecting human rights requires managing the flow of illegal arms while meeting legitimate security needs.

Since then, her affinity and ability to engage in productive, open and constructive debate has only strengthened. As an avid reader and history enthusiast, Noor enjoys considering several perspectives on different global issues to appreciate the various nuances of topics that seem straightforward. As this year’s UNODC’s chair, Noor looks forward to an interesting conference that will become a memorable experience for all delegates in this Committee.

Fatima Khan

As a dedicated psychology student Fatima Khan, Fatima loves to challenge the extraordinary. Her always wanting to try something new and putting in work to get out of her comfort zone is what sparked in the very hobby of debating and interest in International affairs. Fatima loves to listen to all perspectives and be part of well-researched heated debates. Fatima loves to see how a country or an organization can defend themselves so well with good research and smartly worded excuses. She loves listening to prepositions that are unrealistic and are just said to come out of a risky zone. As this year’s UNODC chair, Fatima looks forward to knowing what is new in debates and have corrupt organizations and countries find perfectly manipulative resolutions, and having countries that protest for well-being and peace finally built up the courage to put forth statistics and actions that cant be tolerated.
